Not all building that goes on in a Makerspace needs to employ wood, metal, electronics, and power tools. This is the aim of the Rebels Makerspace – to design and build using a variety of media (like paper and textiles) – and one of the most useful skills one can develop is needlework (ie. sewing, knitting, crocheting). In this workshop, we led students through the process of starting a project and then continuing their crocheting so that they could produce a simple wool bookmark. The best part of crocheting is that any big mistakes can be quickly reset and restarted, which takes the pressure off students to get it right the first time.
