Holidays serve as good inspiration for events to do in a Makerpsace. We wanted to put a Makerspace spin on Hallowe’en that allowed students to create something unique but still paid homage to Hallowe’en traditions. We also wanted students to use some basic hand tools. We used metal soup cans, hammers, nails, and cool stencils we found online. The result was jack o’lanterns made of tin cans sporting Darth Vader, Storm Trooper, Hello Kitty, and cat silhouette designs. Not only did participants leave with a one-of-a-kind lantern, they also received a good dose of catharsis.
