With this event, our aim was to show that Makerspaces do not require expensive equipment and materials like 3D printers, Makey Makeys, and Arduino electronics to be successful. Makerspace events can be done using cheap materials and resources. We focused on upcycling (ie. reusing discarded objects or materials in such a way to create a product of higher quality or value than the original). We found the instructions and templates for a juice carton coin purse online and collected and cleansed over 20 juice and milk cartons. Students who made coin purses loved the unique and funky nature of their creations (and they were also surprised as to how well the purses worked).
