Handmade gifts are always more meaningful than store-bought ones. This was the focus behind this event: create something handmade, simple, and sweet that communicates the essence of Valentine’s Day. Using felt, yarn, cotton balls, and essential oils (we used lavender, peppermint, and lemongrass), students made scented felt hearts (or other shapes) by sandwiching scented cotton balls between two identical felt pieces and using a blanket stitch to close up the shape. Students of all ages and gender participated in this event, and, surprisingly, they were all very interested in learning how to stitch.
