Wine Bottle Glass Etching

Project Description

After cutting glass bottles in a previous workshop, Rebels Makerspace put on a follow up glass etching workshop where students get to use the bottles they cut. The great thing about this craft is its simplicity. Also, it advances our goal of making sustainable products in our makerspace.

We use a Cricut Explorer Air to cut star stencils out of contact paper. Students stick the stencils onto their bottles. Then, they apply painters tape to the edges (just in case the etching solution runs off the etching area). Finally, students apply a liberal amount of etching cream (Armour Etch) onto the stencil.

After 30 minutes, students rinse away the etching solution. What is left is a beautifully etched star! Next up, individual staff photos etched onto bottles.
